Chapter Chatter – South Australia

Sunday, July 16 2017

Hello Sisters and Brothers,

Apologies to any Sister or Brother who did not receive the last Chapter Chatter which I managed to produce in May.

Life became very busy on 19th May when we started moving into our new home at Marion. Very close to the shopping centre which is very handy in some ways but I can see I will be spending quite a bit of time wandering the mall or “mall surfing” as they call it in the Philippines.

On 25th May I headed to Sydney to spend a couple of days with family and help my Brother Paul celebrate his 70th Birthday, something he managed to do for more than a month as his Sisters & Brothers of the Star also honoured him at various meetings right through to the Sessions in Perth when his “real” birthday being 5th June and to busy with Sessions to celebrate.

It was also Sister Blanche’s birthday so they can celebrate together in 2019 when the sessions are in Adelaide.

On arrival in Manila on 28th May we were invited to attend a memorial service for an Eastern Star sister. Little did we realise this was taking place at the Cemetery and our Sister Eva Kalaw was in fact the first female Senator to serve two consecutive terms in the Philippines and led her people through many adverse times. The floral tributes were beautiful and the female Guard of Honour very impressive.

My trip to the Philippines was extremely memorable with the Rainbow Sessions being held on the island of Mindoro. The resort was in a very remote area surrounded by rice paddies. The weather was extremely hot with very high humidity.

Sadly the Triennial Session for OES in the Philippines had to be postponed due to martial law being declared close to the proposed venue in the Southern Philippines. Our thoughts are with all members of the Masonic Family who have been forced to leave their homes for their safety.

Congratulations to Sister Sandra Davis and Brother George Taylor on a successful Session in Perth and a wonderful two years as MWGM & MWGP and congratulations to Sister Helen McLaughlan MWGM & Brother Michael Struthers MWGP on their installation for the term 2017 – 2019. Brother Mick has big shoes to fill due to the passing of Brother Bob Diggle. I’m sure he’s looking down with approval.

I include this small message from Sister Elizabeth: The Sessions in Perth were great and enjoyed by 15 members from South Australia. We had beautiful weather for the whole time we were there. We were very proud to see Brother Mick Struthers installed as MWGP. He has accepted and invitation to attend Sunny South Chapter  on 17th July and we are looking forward to his visit. We have also invited him to our Christmas Meeting.

At the closing of the United Grand Chapter and before the MWGM and her officers retired, we played a three minutes video on South Australia and Adelaide and at the end of that Sis. Blanche Watt, who had a microphone on her desk, said. “The place to be in 2109.” We got a good reception from the video and Blanche’s comment.

Back home and straight into it……helping at the installations of St Andrews & Semaphore Lodges. Our very own Worthy Patron Brother Robert “GORDON” Williams was installed as Worshipful Master. It was a very proud moment for the sisters present when Sister Edith made a speech at the festive board. We wish you every happiness and success for the coming term.

Thank you to those who were able to support the “Beetle” afternoon at Semaphore. $312.00 was raised for the next Sessions to be held here in Adelaide at the Festival Function Centre at Findon.

It was lovely to attend  Karunda Chapter’s meeting where representatives from Legacy and Royal Flying Doctor were present and accepted donations of $1000.00 each. Both representatives were very impressed with the work of the Chapter and also gave interesting talks about their groups. Well done Sisters & Brothers.
