Our Worthy Grand Matron Sister Lorna Dunkley (GC of NSW & ACT) recently visited Wallsend Chapter where 1st time WM Donna Hampton was installed. Sister Hampton has been a very dedicated member as Treasurer for many years.
May you have a safe & joyous Christmas/New Year period. Look to taking a much rest as you can, ready to start again in 2020.
There must be something in the water down in Canberra! The Chapter has seen a number of special events over the last few months….. stories below 🙂
Capital Chapter in partnership with Lodge Queanbeyan St Andrew held a Halloween Party for families at the end of October. This initiative is part of a program to support local Scouts and spread the word about the ‘Masonic Family’. I think some of our members enjoyed the party way too much 🙂
A valued member of our Chapter is Freda Ford who celebrated a huge Birthday milestone in November…… Happy 100th Freda!. Freda was queen for the day during a special afternoon tea in her honour. The photo below is ‘pinched’ from the blog of the Alchemy Chorus who serenaded Freda on this special day (The Alchemy Chorus brings together people living with dementia, their carers, volunteer musicians and singers for a morning of music-making, story-sharing, laughter and fun.)
Sister Mary Steele was presented with a certificate for her 20 years of service to our beloved order. CONGRATULATIONS!
Our Worthy Grand Matron Sister Lorna Dunkley with Her Grand Marshal (Sister Judy Knight), WM Sister Jean Gidley and WP Brother Gary Sweeney, with 6 of our new members that we have welcomed this year!
As our WM’s year came to a close, she was honoured to present a donation to her charity this year …. Kids Cancer Project. Representatives from this charity came along to receive the cheque and to talk about the wonderful work they do for those that need it most.
On 23rd November, our Brother Ben Sweeney was installed by his father Gary, into the chair as Worshipful Master of Lodge Queanbeyan St Andrew. The following week, Brother Ben joined his mother’s side as newly installed Worthy Patron of Capital Chapter.

Hobart Chapter No. 162 held its Open Installation Meeting on Saturday, 5th October 2019 when Sister Janelle Webberley and Brother Gerald Upchurch were installed as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron for the 2019-2020 term.
Among the Distinguished Guests were Sister Christina Vaessen Worthy District Grand Matron and Brother Homer Fairley Worthy District Grand Patron of the Tasmania District Grand Committee and Right Worshipful Brother Phillip Oddie Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Tasmania who was accompanied by Mrs Anne Oddie.
During the 2018-2019 term Hobart Chapter raised funds for the Worthy Matron’s and Worthy Patron’s Charity, Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, and at the Installation Banquet held later at the Geilston Bay Boat Club the Chapter was delighted to welcome Cure Brain Cancer Ambassador Senator Catryna Bilyk who accepted a cheque for $5,620.00 on behalf of the Foundation from Sister Pamela Sangwell Past Most Worthy Grand Matron and Immediate Past Worthy Matron of Hobart Chapter.
This amount was achieved through monetary donations, social functions, sausage sizzles and boosted by a very successful Christmas-in-Winter function held in conjunction with Derwent Valley Masonic Lodge.
In accepting the cheque, Senator Bilyk stated that Cure Brain Cancer does excellent and important work raising awareness of brain cancer, advocating for government action and funding life-saving research and it is a tragic but not very well known fact that brain cancer kills more young Australians aged under 40 than any other cancer and more Australian children aged under 18 than any other disease.
