Christmas in July – Hobart Chapter Style

Saturday, November 20 2021

Despite bleak weather and snow settling to foothills of Kunyani/Mt Wellington, inside the Lindisfarne Masonic Centre, Hobart, the atmosphere was anything but gloomy. On Sunday, July 25th, the supper room was filled to COVID capacity for Hobart Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star’s major fundraising function, Christmas in July.  Chapter members, family, friends and brethren from local Masonic Lodges gathered for a traditional Christmas dinner of turkey, ham, roast vegies and plum pudding.  During the afternoon there was frivolity as children participated in games and, not to be outdone, some adults attempted the games.  The whiskey toss was clearly the favourite with adults.  Santa made a surprise visit, much to the delight of the children who each received a gift.  Santa’s sack also contained bags of chocolates for both children and adults.

During the preceding three months a Major Raffle was conducted and that was drawn during the afternoon.  An auction and raffle on the day contributed to help raise more than $2000 for Diabetes Tasmania, the charity of the 2020-21 Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron.
